SpellKitty collects no personal information from anyone, child or adult. There is no account, no server of ours, no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking code in the app.
SpellKitty listens only while the button is held, to hear the letters being spelled. Speech recognition runs on the device, using Apple’s speech engine with on-device recognition required. No audio is recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
The streak, the words met and the settings are kept on the iPhone. A copy of the word list is kept in the iPhone’s keychain so it survives a reinstall. None of it leaves the device unless you choose to save it (below).
If a grown-up signs in with Apple on the Account screen, the streak and the word list are saved to that Apple Account’s own iCloud (key-value storage). SpellKitty asks Apple for no name and no email; Apple gives the app one identifier, which stays on the device and is used only to tell whose saved copy it is. We cannot read the saved copy. “Delete saved progress” removes the copy from iCloud and signs the device out. Apple does not offer Sign in with Apple on the Apple Account of a child under 13.
SpellKitty Pro is bought through Apple’s App Store (StoreKit). Apple handles the payment; SpellKitty receives only whether the purchase exists. See Apple’s privacy policy for what Apple keeps.
The daily reminder is scheduled on the device and sent by iOS. Nothing about it leaves the iPhone.
SpellKitty is made for children and is listed in the App Store’s Kids category. Because it collects no personal information, it has nothing to share with or sell to anyone. A grown-up’s question stands in front of the purchase, the share sheet, the system Settings and the sign-in.
The app contains the Rive animation runtime, which draws the kitty and the letters on the device and makes no network connection. There are no other third-party components.
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. Questions: support@spellkitty.com.
